Technique #1 - Painting Marxman Bros. Heads.

When we detail our heads before shipping, we use "Plaid Paint For Plastics" and finish with an elastomer clearcoat that is not available to the public. Unfortunately we are not allowed to distribute it, because of it's highly toxic and volatile nature when in liquid form. There is a relatively comparable product available called Minwax Water-basted Polycrylic

For the hobbyist, the best paint to use on our heads is Acrylic Paint. Inexpensive, craft quality Acrylic Paint, sold in small tubes in the hobby department at Wal-Mart will work. However, the best paint is acrylic "Plaid" brand "Plaid Paint For Plastic." We highly recommend using the best quality possible.

This product may be available in Walmart Supercenters and some specialty hobby stores. Hobby Lobby and other art supply stores like Michael’s may have Plaid Paint For Plastics which provides the best adhesion to Marxman Bros heads.This product is inexpensive and readily available online at

You'll find the best clearcoat, available to hobbiests, in the Hardware and Paint department at Wal-Mart. We've found this product can be used as a finishing protective coat for any of the Acrylic paints. This is made by MINWAX and comes in a metal can which is available in different sizes. This product has a turquoise label and is titled MINWAX Water-Based Polycrylic Clear Satin.

• Before painting your new Marxman Bros Creations custom head, be sure to clean it thoroughly with a quality powdered cleanser, like Comet. Rinse very thoroughly with hot water while scruffing and allow to dry. ***

For best adhesion, apply an Acetone precoat to painting surfaces just minutes before painting.

The paint you apply can be damaged by friction or a fall, long after it has cured. When using a custom-mixed color, be sure to mix enough extra to keep if touch-up is ever required.

If you plan on using a hat on your figure, we recommend first coating the inside with Baby Powder, or WD-40. Be sure to wipe the inside of the hat thoroughly before placing it on the head.

1. Parma Faskolor Paint: Faskolor is a water-based, non-toxic hobby paint that is specially formulated for clear lexan surfaces like R/C car bodies. It's supposed to 'fuse' with the plastic allowing it to withstand abuse and cracking. Haven't tried it yet but may be a possibility for accessory or head painting...
